Novelettes is an appropriate term for most of these stories. Through action and dialogue readers come to care about the characters. Descriptive passages are kept minimal so you can 'get on with the story'. Four of the stories were written when the author was quite young. The others date from the near present. Snippets of observations and experience provided the plot impulse for all of these stories, and while essentially fictitious, they sometimes make reality more comprehensible. But not so funny: It's where a young man develops a hysterical physical disorder following his first attempted sexual intercourse-with an unsympathetic partner. |Overall Bear| is a story with roots in Kenya. It shows the explosive nature of male/female relationships in a society emerging from cultural caves where a woman's value is expressed in how many cows she's worth. This story emerged from events that occurred in Nairobi last year. The title story, |So You Wanna Marry a Porn Star,| takes a satiric look at a sexually exploitive TV show which may seem familiar to readers who look at the tube late nights. The star of the show, the famous Tanya, comes directly from Reno, Nevada where she won the Golden Phallus Award for outstanding 'oral, anal, vaginal' work in 'a dramatic feature film.' There are memorable characters in these stories. Unlike typical 'short stories, ' they are more than vignettes, and novels have emerged from |Overall Bear| and |The Assassin.|
